JLPT N5 Study Plan: Your 30-Day Guide

N5 is the easiest JLPT level — but it's also where most people quit, because they study without a structure. Here's a complete 30-day plan that fits 60–90 minutes per day.

What N5 actually requires

Component What you need
Kanji ~100 characters (numbers, days, basic verbs/nouns)
Vocabulary ~800 words
Grammar Particles (は・が・を・に・で・へ・と・も・から・まで), polite forms, past tense, te-form basics
Reading Short passages: emails, notices, simple paragraphs
Listening Slow, clearly spoken dialogues about daily life

The 30-day plan

Days 1–7: Foundations

Days 8–14: Structure

Days 15–21: Reading & listening push

Days 22–27: Simulation

Days 28–30: Final polish

Why simulation matters more than study

Most N5 fails aren't knowledge failures — they're format surprises. The real test wraps the same grammar you know in cloze sentences, notices and dialogues, and that unfamiliar shell eats time. Practice tests train the shell, not just the content.
